Klein Bottle Holiday home by Rob McBride
The winner of the Australian Institute of Architects Robin Boyd Award 08 Residential Architecture, the Klein Bottle house is a holiday house on the Mornington Peninsula. The place is about an hours drive from Melbourne. The unusual design of the house is generated from a mathematical model. The "Klein Bottle" mathematics is a non-directional surface (a distinction without surface between the "inside" and "outside"). The house revolves around a central courtyard, a large majestic staircase connecting all levels. The carefully sculpted, the angular space of the living area is both a revelation and a delight. Experimental be given shelter a bit futuristic. inside red color spaces and contemporary furniture fair that look stronger.
As noted by the jury of the National Award for Architecture "the overall perception of the house is part of a distinctive new language for the interior architecture, a language that takes mathematics to develop an exciting architecture , intrigue and new possibilities.”
