Cozy, light-filled Home With Mezzanine
Blank the residence is the latest project by HAO interior design studio located in the city of Pingtung in Taiwan. The site occupies the corner lot where the old style still inherits a design of two classic floor plan and half floors.
The Hao Design Studio response sees a balance between space and lighting in the study. The mezzanine level indirectly interrupts both the fluidity of the staircase and of the natural light, therefore, the partition walls of the mezzanine were removed, so that the 1.5 - Room floor height became visual fracture of the entire interior space. Meanwhile, to enable the light to be inserted through by removing the partition walls, the upper floor has been transformed into an open library. In addition, the large window framing the dining room has a maximum illumination, while the edge of the resized window was leveled and naturally evolved into extra seating for the dining table.
second team challenge was the staircase. The original staircase, which is located at the entrance of the house was transferred to the back where the kitchen was. translucent materials have been used to replace the roof above the kitchen so that light can penetrate and point to the direction of the stairs. This also acts as a transition between the open space of the ground floor and the privacy of the second floor.
Upstairs, the light connects the master bedroom to the bathroom open. Although the house is divided into contrasting programs, raised platforms and different flooring, not only creates tables and dressers seats, but also helps to differentiate the rooms with different functions and features. When light illuminates the interior of the house, shadows accentuate the flow of movement, creating a space where people can sit at different heights through the floor plan but still engage intimate, lively communications.
