19th Century Cottage Renovated in American Shingle-Style House
Renovating a summer19th century cottage on Cape Cod in permanent residence was quite a task for Polhemus Savery DaSilva architects. The house was enlarged to provide space for a large family and all their ceramics, works of art, antique collections and so on. Georgian architecture influenced the new façade - and the concept of a packing house around three sides of a large formal courtyard. This court, which incorporates a circular driveway, is available under a closed bridge that connects the wing original cottage with a new garage building room and television. The other wing of the house provides a tour of the two-storey library and a second master suite. If the front is a "cloak" extended and formalized, back, face a creek to the ocean and the ocean in the distance, is more irregular, more massive, and shaped around maximize water views. It is more in the tradition of grand style shingle cottage. [Polhemus Savery DaSilva]
