Wood objects inspired Sushi
designer based in Tel Aviv Ori Ravgad created three unique items for his final project studies explore the art of wood veneer. Inspired by the ancient art of sushi equipment, he created the Paipu (Japanese pipe) Wood Engineering, where wooden pipes are compressed into custom molds to create a custom wood veneer.
These wooden pipes create a new dimension of casting. Using a method of laminated wooden pipe, the resulting veneer is a unified solid surface in coherent waves, with respect to layers in perspective resulting from the lamination. The three objects that illustrate this new wooden pipe technique consist of a light, stool and swing, and are called "object on a roll."
