Traditional Japanese Design House in modern style by Foster + Partners
The Kawana house is a fusion of love Japanese harmony and respect for nature and western architecture of steel and glass. It is the exploration of traditional Japanese architecture in a modern context. Located on a spectacular stretch of volcanic coastline where long fingers inaccessible lava jut in Sagami Bay, the change in the levels throughout the site and the sea views are the main things to consider in the design of the House. Full height glass sliding doors line the perimeter, allowing for open living spaces T terraces to capture amazing views of the surrounding landscape. It is not usual for traditional Japanese architecture to have a lot of light inside the house, but that is becoming increasingly popular in modern. In addition to the glass doors and large windows, Kawana house roof as a fifth glass facade. [Foster + Partners]
