I was pushing around Instagram one day and ended up down a rabbit hole (as I usually do!) and came across a shop in the UK at the heart of Brighton called Unlimited. This independent boutique and gallery focuses on achieving designers and emerging manufacturers with goods include textiles, homewares, furniture, jewelry and more.

Run by husband and wife team Patrick and Sarah Morrissey, Unlimited design studio, the store actually started in 2010 as a popup, where they show their own products alongside some of their favorite designers and manufacturers . Obviously a success, they spotted a convenient location in Brighton and has become a permanent fixture. Patrick contuse to perform unlimited design studio, while Sara turned his attention to running the store and gallery. I talked to Sara about what it is like running the shop:

Why you choose this city / district / window?

Brighton has the dynamism and creativity you find in London, but has the added benefit of a relaxed attitude and the beach! We traveled here from the capital in the last few years and has not looked back. Our store is located (our studio) in the heart of the creative community of the city - North Laine is an original mix of galleries, studios, independent shops and cafes. An area locals and visitors love because he is the 'high street' ... Shoppers will find all sorts here, just a short stretch of the railway station and the beach. You can not miss us as our shopfront shout our design approach, reflecting the inside to the outside - Colorful graphics and fun! Although it might have changed the appearance of the next time you go ... You have to get things done!

Where did you get the name of the shop?

is shared with our design studio and summarizes our creative perspectives - Unlimited by style, medium or concept, we create and enjoy design solutions that enlighten, enrich and entertain. As designers and store owners / curators we are always looking for new inspirations, ideas and approaches. Our scope is broad because we like to be engaged with what is happening at any given time and the willingness to give things a go. Why limit yourself?

has he changed much since it opened? How?

He changed a lot, but has grown organically and in response to how we evolved and inspired. Originally, we threw open our doors studio on weekends to show the works of our friends / peers. Then start by organizing exhibitions and pop-up events. Before we knew it, we had a growing national reputation, and people we approached to sell their work for them! We quickly outgrew the space and we need to be open and accessible for more than two days a week!

We opened our space of the current gallery and shop in 2013, which allowed us to explore and cure a variety much broader sharp graphic design. In addition to our ever-growing collection of impressions, we presented furniture, jewelry, textiles, ceramics, even plants. The great thing is that the store can (and does) change all the time.

This is one of the challenges you have now?

Just one? Haha. Retail is difficult, especially in the climate we have all suffered in recent years. Art and design is rarely seen as an unavoidable necessity. People will be happy to spend on lunch and coffee, but take ages to decide to spend the same on an artistic piece that they could enjoy for years! It is the nature of 'shopping' these days! Culturally, we are so used to being told what is stylish, trendy and cheap by large retailers that compete with the expectations of customers as an independent store is difficult. Our strength, however, is to offer a knowledgeable and passionate staff, and a calendar changing events, experiences and unique products. We basically just enjoying showcase what we like.

What other stores did you work before opening it?

My background is in the creative industry. - I spent years as an illustrator to practice and teach at a number of universities before then completing a Masters degree in typography and moving on in graphic design

What is your article favorite in the store now?

This is a tricky question because there are just too many! Everything is personally chosen because I like it!

What is the theme / inspiration / story this season?

I believe that our inspiration is based on the individual manufacturer. So I guess our theme is variety. We are not trying to follow trends, but seek new work by some champion talent that you might not have heard of yet. In May, for example, in the largest arts festival in Brighton, we work with a selection of local makers, whose practices and mediums are diverse but united by their craft, skill, passion and great design . It will give people a chance to see what is happening around them and purchase items made locally to dress themselves and their homes.

Do you wear all the new products and / or undiscovered gems that you are particularly happy about?

We are all on the undiscovered gems here. It is flattering when big brands approach us for storage, but we are much more interested in being the first one dealer. It gives artists a platform to showcase their talents and test the market and we can shout about great new design. Some of our initial designers when we started, as Kitty McCall, Tom and Pigeon One We Made Earlier are increasingly becoming established design "marks" in themselves now.

We have had great success with our exclusive One We Made Earlier Necklace NINA I acrylic pieces and our own wrapping paper designs by Esther Cox. We like the potential collaboration on exclusives can bring unlimited -.? As we see it as a positive boost to both parties

All events / exhibitions / pop ups / special collaborations coming

The next is a textile and printing showcase Sunny Todd Prints. It will be full of bright primary colors and dynamic shapes. There will also be the exclusive weird too. you have something store in your own home?

Haha. A lot! It is one of the great advantages of running your own shop! ... Seriously, it is a reflection of the belief that we have in our products and designers. When buying and curating the store, always question the forefront is "I give it house room? It is a personal curation, and I want to believe that his strength is. We want to encourage our customers to make purchases they love too. It really helps when you can say that I have that in my room before, or even better when you wear the necklace they watch. This does not include the purchase in a brand name or trend, it is all about discovering and nurturing your own style.

I abstract prints and textiles Kitty McCall leading the look of my room, 'Pool Virginia Morgand of prints brighten up a room and adding a monochrome prints Supermundane board our hallway. I also have a small collection of our beloved wooden trees Forge on our fireplace! Jewelry, well, my personal collection is definitely more! I like to wear our Nina necklace by One We Made Earlier, a piece of regular daily reporting to work! ... I also have some beautiful pieces of silver talents of our local RockCakes and Silver Spur.
