Wind Protected House with Walls
Ohana House at Niulii is one of the houses which are located on the Hawaiian hills to catch all the amazing views around, but protected from the constant winds 10-40 knots per hour. The roofs are pitched to match the angle of the hill on which stands the house, home court of the elements. The large glass walls not only capture a view of the beautiful nature around, but also the ocean. They also make the inside of the house is filled with natural light during the day. The building is anchored to the ground on a stone base through steel tie downs that are visually laced into the rafters and pinned in the stone foundations. [Cutler Anderson Architects]
