Dark House Family on a very small Inner City Lot
This 2,300 square foot house is located on a very small lot of downtown in one of the oldest neighborhoods in the city. This area was devastated by the Great Fire of 1917 and more recently by a new highway half a block from the site so that the topography was not very well during the construction. Although Bldgs architects were able to overwhelm all the bad conditions and build the beautiful house with a usual dark enough for them outside.
The interior of the house is a direct response to urban conditions. The planes multifaceted exterior walls define, through the mass and materials, spaces and elements of residential indoor, still connecting the house to the city. At the center of the plan of a skylight pierces the upper level to bring natural light to the main level, ensuring a vertical connection between floors. [blgds]
