A stool inspired by Japanese folklore
Stool Inspired by Japanese Folklore
According to Japanese folklore, a tree is the link between heaven above and the ground below. Inspired by this thought and Japanese carpentry, The Twig Co. designed the Kyoto minimalistic stool made from a single piece of wood.
On a large piece of wood, two dovetail key, a branch basis, and bookmatched (a mirror design on the wood surface) seat are dissected, planed-hand and fit. With this method, there is minimal waste and an object from a simple design is created. Once the stool has been assembled, it is partly based on the user for added stability, a symbolism of nature and man working together.
