Pine is currently one of materiasl most commonly used in most millwork because of its prevalence in nature. Consequently, there is an excess of waste left cut materials from manufacturing processes. Simin Qiu created the End Grain project as a way to use the grain pattern of waste end design new items every day.

Thanks to various pine tissue (xylem and phloem), life can travel through the pin, creating pretty grain patterns and the same transmission light. Designer Simin Qiu did not waste these precious pieces and thus took a new approach to the material composition. Rather than using nails or connectors, desk accessories are constructed by cutting and pasting carefully, allowing the grain to shine through.
