So at ICFF, we took note of Materia, a design studio based in New York that focuses on the furniture, lighting and objects that enhance the natural beauty of materials such as stone, brass, veal, parchment, steel, porcelain and wood.

drawing their origins combined in the choreography, fashion, landscape design and timber owners Megan and Matt Sommerville Ensner published a nice collection and I were specifically taken by their lighting, that felt as if it was modeled after the flight of birds or pieces of paper floating. I was surprised to discover that the pieces I was watching were actually porcelain.

The forchette series was inspired by a collaboration with the ceramist Andrew Molleur and the cluster, asymmetrical arrangements of barnacles in nature.

Slice is a collection of simple, sober silhouettes including nuances that can be oriented in any direction, casting light through the open side of the shade (the "slice").

Materia-Tsuru-Pendant-II-off

The Tsuru collection was actually inspired by birds, as I had first suspicious. In particular, the series was modeled on the dancing silhouettes of Red Crowned Crane, wedding china "leaves" brass spun to create a silhouette that feels as if it is moving.
