Home in Hawaiian traditions Basalt Masonry
Designed by architect Webster Wilson, this house on the Hawaiian islands built with their the best traditions of basalt masonry with light wood customs floating roofs. Lava masonry walls are very popular around the island and are made from local black basalt flows of lava. The interpretation of the modern walls for this house is made of cast iron monumental site concrete with basalt aggregate. The open floor plan allows large expanses of glass to capture the views of beautiful coastline and lush vegetation. lightweight wood elements offer protection against the sun and privacy for the home as for its outdoor space. Such a design is quite unique to the Hawaiian Islands but not without some things common with other properties. [Webster Wilson]
