Sustainable Cabin Oceanfront On Volcanic Mountainside
Seascape Retreat is located in a small cove on the north shore of two Miocene Shield volcanoes in New Zealand. Designed by Pattersons Associates, the little cabin by the sea is built using stone quarried locally, cast in place concrete floors and ceilings and has a thick roof covered the surrounding vegetation that makes it all but disappear in its surrounding volcanic mountains. The thick roof is also designed to withstand any falling debris, protect the windows below, which offers interior views of the bay and the Rocky Spires. The windows are double-low 3 satin glass framed with steel mullions and storm proof Sunder featuring sliding heads resistant to earthquakes. There is a lobby, complete social area with bedroom and bathroom, interiors are modern and quite simple. The outer zone is as much a part of the social area is the main part inside.
