Functional modern house on a narrow lot
This Fitzroy North, Melbourne, Australia house went through a major renovation by Dan Gayfer design that adapted the house for a young family. The lot covers only five meters wide and the owners did not want to compromise on space and functionality for just a location downtown. To encourage interaction, cornices, steps, salons, and benches were built for people to sit as a way to encourage conversation and activities. Particular attention has been paid to space, layout and lighting to help promote functionality and give the illusion of more space. The high ceilings on both floors, as well as strategically placed windows, doors and skylights keep the interior light and airy. interior living spaces and outdoor areas have been integrated with sliding glass doors, essentially increasing the square footage
