Contemporary house on the footprint of pre-existing Bungalow - Ravine House by KPMB
Ravine House is located in Rosedale the edge of one of the oldest forest ravine systems in Toronto and just north of downtown. It looks like a modern building built on the footprint of the existing 1950s bungalow. The site is approximately half an acre, but the house is only a small part of it. Although designed for a family with six children and host a range of business and cultural events. It consists of two two-story masonry volumes intersected by a pavilion storey. They form a shaped courtyard of L with a breathtaking view of the surroundings. The house is divided into four zones to allow independent control and lower energy consumption when certain areas are not in use. A geothermal heat pump system maintains low power consumption and absorbs all mechanical sounds, enhancing the tranquil atmosphere of the house.
